Do
you know someone between the ages of 9-21 interested in photography?
If so, then you should direct them to The Point, where our photography
program, ICP at The Point, offers the best photography classes in
the city for free.
Equipped with 35mm cameras, students begin by taking pictures of
the everyday happenings of The Point and the community that surrounds
it. Students work one on one with TAs and instructors
and learn all of the basics of camera use. Afterwards you
are able to develop your own film and print your favorite shots.
If your interests lean more towards fashion photography and portraiture,
you can stay in the studio and learn more about lighting techniques,
and creating innovative portraits with models.
Oftentimes the class heads out on field trips to the zoo, Botanical
Gardens, Central Park and throughout the neighborhood, focusing
on self-expression in portraiture. Other perks include slide
shows of student work and guest artist presentations.
As students progress in the study of photography, they become eligible
for job opportunities assisting with classes and the lab.
Students have contact with professional photographers, museum professionals
and other talented artists, all of whom are committed to guiding
young people to discover their potential.
In the winter of 2000, the ICP at The Point Gallery was unveiled
at The Point CDC. A rotating exhibition series titled Vantage
Point, has featured student work from all of our classes, including
instructors past & present.
