**Click here to read about MAMBO TO HIP HOP TOURS.**

THE POINT CDC Music Program is a new program that offers both free and low cost music instruction to South Bronx residents with an emphasis on the Hunts Point Community. There is also a Scholarship Program available for gifted students.

We are currently offering beginning to intermediate instruction in Latin and African Percussion, Electric Bass, Guitar, Drums, Piano, and Voice. There are also performance ensembles for young participants in the program. All classes are small to insure quality learning, and are 30-40 minutes in length.

Private lessons are also available for a nominal fee. Classes are open to children over 7 years old, teens, and adults.
All children participating in THE POINT's After School Program are eligible for music appreciation. Private lessons are scheduled according to the instructor's availability.

The Wrecking Crew

The Point CDC's "Wrecking Crew" is a four piece unit that is made up of youngsters in The Point's After School Program who are also students in The Point Music Program. They play popular cover songs and do a 10-15 minute set and we are very proud of them.  The group features -- 12 year old Christine Mathies, who plays piano/keyboard and sings backing vocals, and 10 year old drummer/lead vocalist Shakeema Jordan. They are joined by newcomers 10 year old Teresa Rivera on electric bass/lead vocals and 8 year old Sarah Cordero on vocals. The group recently performed at "The Amazing Bronx River Flotilla" and at newly elected State Assemblyman Michael Benjamin's swearing in ceremony.  They were also featured on Telemundo hispanic television in a news story about The Point CDC. Past Wrecking Crew shows have included the "Safe Night" festival in St Mary's Park, The Variety Telethon on PAX-TV, the concert for Youth Ministries, NYC Parks Department  functions and of course The Point's annual showcase where they played for Congressman Jose Serrano, and City Councilman Jose M Serrano. They are always performing so check their schedule and see them live if you get the chance.

The Wrecking Crew is available for dates throughout the year.
