Please join The Point CDC in honoring the great Mr. Nicky Marrero. Born and raised in the Bronx, Marrero was a Latin jazz percussionist who made his mark in the music industry by playing timbales in The Fania Allstars and contributing to the 1970s salsa boom in New York City.
Marrero's distinguished career includes collaborations with some of the biggest names in music such as Tito Puente, Machito, Celia Cruz, Hector Lavoe, Dizzy Gillespie, Paul Simon, Spyro Gyra, Linda Ronstadt, Joe Farrell, Esther Phillips, Carlos and Jorge Santana, Steely Dan, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Eddie Palmieri, and many others. Additionally, Marrero was a member of The Fania Allstars, a Latin music supergroup that played a significant role in spreading salsa music worldwide.
